St. Michael in Lungau
Located in the far south of the Salzburg region, our sunny mountain valley is situated between Radstädter Tauern and Katschberg. Known as the Lungau, it was a popular destination even during the 19th century. A place for "fresh summer air". The sunny location, fresh air and clear mountain springs from the Tauern and Nocker mountains have always drawn visitors to the Lungau.
Biosphere Lungau
Lungau was recently certified as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, sharing this coveted award with famous regions such as the Galapagos Islands and Yellowstone National Park. And those who know the Lungau Mountains know why: The Riedingtal-Zederhaus Nature Park and the Weißpriachtal Valley are amongst the most beautiful landscapes Salzburg has to offer. If you want environmentally friendly travel, enjoy tradition and value ecological diversity, you will feel right at home in Lungau: Local custom such as “Prangstangentragen” in June, where as many as 60,000 flowers are collected and woven into floral garlands, or the Giant Samson parades, strong rooted tradition as well as the picturesque architecture in 15 villages have been consciously preserved. These can all be explored on two wheels: over 500 kilometres of mountain bike routes and 550 kilometres of family friendly trails criss-cross through Austria’s highest e-bike region.
